If you thought adults are the only ones addicted to technology then you should know that you are seriously mistaken. Over the years kids too have become so attached to technology as some spend most of their time glued to their screens for a couple of hours in a day, which can be quite damaging to their health. Problems that have been linked to too much screen time ( 2+ hours) include sleeping and eating disorders, high chances of obesity, shortened attention spans and other psychological effects.
Don’t get us wrong, technology has an array of benefits to your kids but there should be some sort of healthy balance. One way you can create this balance is by bringing your kids along for a camping adventure where they will be far from their devices and in touch with nature. With that being said, here are reasons why you should bring your kids along bush camping at Murphy’s Creek Escape.
We offer a variety of outdoor activities for kids
If your goal is to keep your kids 100% occupied and away from their screens, the Murphy’s Creek Escape is the place to be. We offer various fun and engaging activities on our campground that are suitable for kids such as the giant swing. This activity will definitely get your kid’s adrenaline pumping. Your child will be harnessed in and pulled metres above the ground getting their nerves at an all time high.
Secondly, your child could go hiking. There are more than 100,000 acres of National park to explore where they will get to see amazing wildlife and witness the most beautiful greenery. Thirdly, we’ve got mountain climbing. This activity will not require your kid to have high levels of fitness and endurance so even the younger ones can join in the fun. We offer both flat and open trails and advanced ones. Whichever you choose is up to you and your capabilities. Last but not least we have archery. We have experienced instructors on site to show your kids how to go about this activity in case it’s their first time.
Your kids will get to see native animals on our grounds
Our campsite sits alongside more than 100,000 acres of National Park and State Forest giving you the chance to explore this vast expanse of land filled with amazing wildlife. At Murphy’s Creek, you get to see cute, furry, scaly, fuzzy and unique animals in our neighbourhood and this tends to attract visitors from all over Australia. Unfortunately, it’s not usually easy to spot these animals as they tend to get scared off by loud noises or any man made structure. Though for our campground, thanks to the Eco Billabong our local wildlife have found a safe, clean and comfortable space to move around, hence they are more likely to hang around our site. Don’t forget if you love birds there are plenty of local species to capture on your camera’s

They get to build their own campfire
The best way to relax after a full day of adventurous activities with the family is by sitting around the campfire and sharing stories with one another. At Murphy’s Creek, our visitors can have fires on any site provided there are no fire bans set in place. The different camp accommodations such as the remote sites, army tents and the group sites have inbuilt fire pits while the other sites don’t. This is to allow our visitors to have flexibility in setting up.
You can also bring your own firepit but it should have legs so as to ensure it doesn’t sit directly on the ground. Last but not least, we do have a communal fire pit on our site but note that we do not provide free wood for the fire pit. While setting up your firepit, make sure to involve your kids on how to go about it while also roasting some marshmallows with them and singing songs around the fire.
Your kids get to cool off in our Eco Billabong
The Australian sun can get quite intense but don’t let that stop you from camping with us. Luckily when bush camping at Murphy’s Creek Escape, you get to cool off at our Eco Billabong plus it is child friendly. You get to swim while also enjoying the views our campsite has to offer. Additionally, our Eco Billabong is also safe for the environment and the local wildlife as well. It gives the local wildlife a safe, clean and comfortable space for them to move around hence making them spend more time around the site.
We too have a swimming hole and creek for the kids to splash around in. It’s the perfect place for you and your kids to swim in especially after heavy rainfall as your kids get to float around in inflatables, race with each other and just have a blast in general. Note that for our creek to have enough water to swim in, it is all dependent on the weather conditions as it tends to dry up especially during the drought seasons.
They will get a chance to watch and feed the birds
If your kids are bird lovers, they will love it here. At Murphy’s Creek Escape, over 300 different types of birds have been recorded at our campsite. Ensure you and your kid have a pair of binoculars so as to see how many out of the 300 you can spot. Also be keen to listen to the bird sounds as well. For a detailed register of all the species identified at our site, click here. The highlight of this activity is that you will also get a chance to find the birds as well.
