Australian Bush Camping Experience
Australia is known around the world for its stunning landscape; from lush greenery to vast sunburnt spaces. Many Australians reminisce on childhoods spent camping with their families, and it’s becoming a rite of passage for backpackers to try it out too. The best part? You don’t have to be a totally experienced outdoor enthusiast or even an avid camper to get the authentic Aussie bush camping experience.
Murphy’s Creek Escape is located 30 minutes from the regional hub of Toowoomba and 90 minutes from the Queensland capital of Brisbane. While it’s easy enough to reach our beautiful camping venue for a day trip, an overnight stay is far more rewarding. There is something to be said about starting your day with the sounds of birds chirping and unwinding at the end of a fun-filled adventure under a picturesque sunset that makes way for a glittering night sky where the Milky Way is on display in all of its glory.
Bring everyone together
Whether you’re exploring your own country or trotting around the globe, almost every backpacker sets out with the intention of meeting new people and spending valuable time with their travel partners. Camping at Murphy’s Creek Escape will do just that!
This is an opportunity to unplug electronically and disconnect from technology, which allows people to become more present in the moment. It’s only then that you can spend real, quality time with the people around you, and make memories together that will last a lifetime. When you’re relaxed and enjoying the ride, you’re more likely to run into people that are on the same wavelength too and that always leads to lifelong friendships.
Simple and easy
Australia is also a country that embraces and encourages an outdoor lifestyle, and this means planning, booking and getting equipped for a camping trip couldn’t be easier. If you don’t have all the gear, Murphy’s Creek Escape can hire you tents, a camper trailer, stretchers and other camping gear. To take the stress out of setting up and packing down, they will also have these ready for you when you arrive if you’ve booked ahead (there is a fee for set up and pull down of tents/camper trailer). There are also plenty of camping stores in Toowoomba, Brisbane and other nearby locations that offer inexpensive options to buy or rent the things you need.
Murphy’s Creek Escape campsites are generous in size and clearly marked out. There are numerous campsite options including powered sites, unpowered, canyon top, remote and large group areas.
Native animals
The picturesque Murphy’s Creek Escape campground is home to many types of flora and fauna. Hidden amongst the lush greenery and rugged landscape, you may be lucky enough to spot wallabies, goannas, koalas, snakes, frogs and many different birds. Camping is your opportunity to get up-close and personal with these locals; although you will need patience and persistence to see them.
One of our favourite pastimes is to grab a set of binoculars and head out on a bird-watching walk. As you meander along one of the trails, you can try to spot the different birds along the way – we’ll give you extra points if you can name the species too!
