The Christmas fun might be over, but January is just getting started. Long, sunny days, perfect pool weather, lazy afternoons and games during dinner with the family. The summer holidays have to be our favourite time of year, and we love seeing happy campers filling the grounds.
We don’t mind if you’re a seasoned camper, a big family with lots of littlies in tow, or totally new to the outdoor adventure scene; Murphys Creek Escape is packed with activities to make your stay truly special, and we can’t wait to invite you in!
But rather than a simple camping trip, why not turn up the heat a little and make it a game? We’ve put together the ultimate bucket list of must-do activities while you’re here.
From exciting on-site experiences to nearby adventures in the stunning Lockyer Valley, there’s something for everyone to enjoy – and the kids can take the lead in ensuring each experience is ticked off before you leave.
What On-site activities are included in your stay?
Your stay at Murphys Creek Escape includes access to so much more than just a campsite or glamping tent. Here are a handful of must-try camping activities to enjoy right on our doorstep, all of which you can easily enjoy with our resources and in-built experiences provided:
1 – Spot wallabies and native birds
Our bushland is teeming with native wildlife, making it a nature-lover’s dream. Keep your eyes peeled wallabies and even koalas as you explore the grounds. Birdwatchers will love spotting kingfishers, kookaburras, cockatoos…and plenty more of the 300+ bird species recorded in the Upper Lockyer region! Plus, don’t miss the chance to feed the birds with your little ones each afternoon.
2 – Teach the kids to build a campfire (we can help, don’t worry!)
No camping trip is complete without a crackling campfire. Gather your family, toast some marshmallows and share stories as the sun sets. There’s something so exciting and satisfying about creating a fairdinkum fire from scratch, and it’s an incredibly valuable camp skill your little ones will love. Don’t worry if it’s your first time; our team is always happy to share campfire tips (and get the heat started if needed).
3 – Cook a classic Aussie BBQ
Bring your best BBQ skills to our on-site facilities and treat your crew to some delicious grilled goodies. There’s nothing like the smell of sausages sizzling on the barbie, paired with the fresh air of the great outdoors. At our camp kitchen and BBQ area, you’ll find an electric barbecue along with all the food and cooking essentials like fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, blender, sinks, lighting, power, seating, and a large bonfire ring which is perfect for camp oven cooking.
4 – Hike one (or more) of our beautiful bush trails
Some of the most popular and sought-after attractions at Murphys Creek are the stunning bush tracks on all sides. Surround yourself with the beauty of nature by exploring local trails, which range from beginner to advanced and include a variety of distances. Whether you prefer a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, you’ll find incredible views, tranquil spots, and even some hidden gems.
5 – Swim at Murphys Creek and the Eco Billabong Pool
Beat the summer heat with a refreshing dip! Swim in the natural waters of Murphys Creek (provided rainfall has filled the creek bed with enough swimming water) or enjoy the clear, cool water of our Eco Billabong Pool. It’s the perfect way to cool down after a day of exploring, and the kids will love splashing around in the natural shallows.
6 – Quality pup time at the off-leash dog run
This is an optional extra bucket list item for those camping with their furry family members. We love to have our four-legged friends join us, and Murphys Creek Escape is the ultimate doggy retreat. We’ve got a dedicated (and quite large) off-leash dog area for your pooch to run free and enjoy some quality time with his humans.
More kid-approved adventure adventures
Looking to elevate your experience with a bit of extra thrill? We’ve got a range of fabulous family-friendly activities on-site that run all through the January peak time, and are available at an extra cost should you wish to participate.
